5, Including Congressman Scalise, Shot in Attack on Congressional Baseball Practice

This morning at a republican Congressional baseball practice, gunman James Hodgkinson opened fire on several congressmen, their staffers, and the congressional police force. Among those injured were congressman and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (now in stable condition), and “a congressional staffer, Zach Barth, was also injured. Matt Mika, a lobbyist for Tyson Foods who sometimes practices with the team, was also identified as one of the victims (CNN).” Hodgkinson was shot and killed by the congressional police force minutes after he opened fire. The gunmen had several arrests previous to the incident, belonged to several anti-Republican movements, and worked on the Bernie Sanders Presidential campaign in 2016. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and the Congressional Sargent at Arms will be discussing personal security with Congress later on this afternoon.
